Biography: Well-known as the face and voice of film culture on Australia's national youth broadcaster, triple j, and formerly SBS Television's The Movie Show, Marc Fennell is an award winning critic who likes to pull high-brow culture down off its high horse and give it a solid spanking. On triple j radio Marc writes, presents and produces reviews and Marc Fennell's Film Ed 101 (which examines weird and wonderful slices of movie history and media culture). On triple j tv marc writes and presents the weekly movie segment, Flicked, where he explores genres & themes across film history. In addition to that, he also interviews travelling moviemakers like Will Ferrell and Brendan Fraser. All of this can be downloaded for free in the triple j film podcast.
Marc also writes a monthly column on music video culture for jmag and he maintains a blog at triplej.net.au/film.
Marc has also worked with organisations like MySpace, Fairfax Media, ABC Radio, Telstra Bigpond, The Movie Network, Popcorn Taxi and The Sydney Film Festival.
Marc began his torrid love affair with movies back in high school when he won the Australian Film Institute's inaugural Young Film Critic Competition. He spent almost 4 years as the resident film critic and reporter of Sydney youth broadcaster FBi 94.5 There he reviewed over 400 films, filed stories on everything from Punk cinema to Porn Flicks and interviewed some of the most interesting people in popular culture including filmmakers Kevin Smith, Richard Linklater, J.J Abrams, Phillip Noyce, Danny Boyle, Will Ferrell, opinionated Oasis frontman Noel Gallagher, punk icon Malcolm McLaren and Buffy creator Joss Whedon. In 2004 Marc joined SBS Television's 'The Movie Show’ where each week he dug up cult DVD's for 2 years.
