GREG DEAN SCHMITZ

Agrees with the Tomatometer 71% of the time.

Biography: Greg Dean Schmitz, 31, is a Wisconsin native whose writing career began in 1988 when he won a screenwriting scholarship to the UW-Stevens Point. Turning down the UW scholarship, Greg's path instead took him to the University of South Florida, where he pursued first a degree in Philosophy, and then a Master's degree in Library Science. While in school, Greg continued writing, including a stint as an active member of Tampa's "spoken word" community. During this time, Greg also served as PD at the student radio station, WBUL, and ran for student body president. 1993 was the year that he went on-line, beginning first as a spurious contributor of lengthy discussions on several mailing lists, and then as the WWW grew, becoming more active there as well. Fandoms in which Greg was extremely active include the television show "Twin Peaks", the musical group the Smiths, and the comic book "Kingdom Come". Growing restless with writing about fandom, Greg established "Bookhouse's Previews of Upcoming Movies" in 1997 (using his nom du net inspired by the Bookhouse Boys of "Twin Peaks"), Greg began developing a site that provided the kind of direct information he had been looking for online for years. The past 2 years have been a period of extreme growth for the site, which in September of 1998 evolved into Upcomingmovies.com. After ten years of searching for his writing muse, Greg is now comfortably settling into developing the new writing art of the "preview", though "reviews" are satisfying as well. Greg moved to Santa Monica, CA in January, 2002, and on May 31st, 2002, launched a new version of his writing at Yahoo! Movies called "Greg's Previews of Upcoming Movies", harking back to the name of his original site.
