SEAN BURNS

Agrees with the Tomatometer 73% of the time.

Biography: Since 1999 Sean Burns has been Philadelphia Weekly's lead film critic, and also currently writes for The Improper Bostonian. His work has previously appeared in The Boston Metro, Matinee Magazine, The Nashville Scene, Time Out New York and The House Next Door. Burns was a recurring guest on the late David Brudnoy's WBZ 1030 AM Radio Show, and in 2002 received an award for Excellence in Criticism from the Society of Professional Journalists. His writing has been called "jocular but serious, more like a 1940s daily reporter pounding out columns on a manual typewriter than a typical 21st century navel-gazing film critic." Burns has also been told that he "smokes too much and drives like an old lady." He and his cat live in Stoneham, MA.

" It'll probably be wicked suspenseful for anybody who didn't pay attention in history class."

Vicky Cristina Barcelona (2008)

" Woody Allen's best film in years... talk about damning with faint praise. Vicky Cristina Barcelona is hardly a return to form, but it'll do."

Vantage Point (2008)

" There's roughly 20 minutes of story here, and no matter how many times they stop and start over again from an even more preposterous angle, it's still going to play out like a lousy episode of 24."

V For Vendetta (2005)

" Writing in the same babbling, humorless fashion as their woebegotten Matrix sequels, the Wachowskis again mistake leaden exposition for drama. Think Fight Club, only without the irony."

A Very Long Engagement (2004)

" The gifted, undisciplined Jeunet applies his trademark restless zigzagging to a story that's confoundingly complicated enough already. More fatiguing than exhilarating. "

The Village (2004)

" The most beautifully crafted stupid movie I've ever seen, and a pitiable act of self-sabotage. It isn't healthy for a young filmmaker to decide he's become his own genre."
