Peter Berg (born March 11, 1964 in New York City, New York) is an American actor, film director, film producer, & writer. Born to a Jewish American father, Larry Berg and a Catholic mother, Sally Berg, he also has a younger sister Mary. He attended Macalester College, Saint Paul, Minnesota where he majored in theater arts and theater history, he graduated in 1984 then in 1985 he moved to Los Angeles to pursue his film career. Berg put his acting aspirations on hold when he first arrived in Los Angeles, choosing instead to learn about the film business as a production assistant. He made his first screen debut in a 1986 episode of CBS' The Equalizer and later appeared on 21 Jump Street (Fox) and O'Hara (ABC). He is now directing Friday Night Lights the series which premieres October 3, on NBC
Berg is best known for his role as Dr. Billy Kronk on the CBS TV series Chicago Hope from 1995 to 1999. While on the show he wrote two episodes of Chicago Hope his first year as a regular and later would get his feet wet as a director before leaving the series at the end of the 1998-99 season. Berg described the opportunity as "like getting paid to go to film school."
Personal life
On August 28, 1993 Berg married long-time girlfriend Elizabeth Rogers, they later divorced in 1997. Berg has a son that was born November 1999. Currently he is dating Estella Warren.
