David Koechner (pronounced KEK-ner) (born August 24, 1962 in Tipton, Missouri) is an American film and television character actor.
Biography
Koechner joined The ImprovOlympic where one of his teachers was famed acting guru Del Close. From his time at Second City, Koechner earned a spot on Saturday Night Live for one season, where he befriended Will Ferrell.
One of Koechner's best known roles is as "Champ Kind" in the Will Ferrell film Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy
He also has a recurring role as Todd Packer, the obnoxious salesman in the American version of The Office, and recently played gun lobbyist Bobby Jay Bliss in the film Thank You For Smoking. He also appeared in the thriller Snakes on a Plane as an airline co-pilot who realizes his plane is being inhabited by venomous snakes.
A frequent co-star and member of the Frat Pack, Koechner continues his association with Ferrell in the comedy Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby.
Future Plans
In 2007, Koechner will be seen in his first leading role in The Comebacks (opening March 23), the first comedy to be released under Fox Searchlight's Fox Atomic divisionBrady at QB for Atomic; Helmer tackles 'Comebacks'; Snyder, Gabriel and Nicole Laporte; Sep. 24, 2006; Variety.com - Film. Koechner will play a college football coach with the worst record in the history of the sport vows to turn things around with his new team of ragtag recruits. Veteran actor Carl Weathers has been cast as Koechner's rival coach.
On January 17, 2007, Comedy Central will premiere The Naked Trucker and T-Bones Show, a sketch comedy series starring Koechner (T-Bones) and longtime performing partner David 'Gruber' Allen (The Naked Trucker.) The duo will perform their unique brand of off-color songs and introduce pre-taped skits. Currently, Comedy Central has ordered 8 episodesCOMEDY CENTRAL Announces The Series Pick-Up Of The Torrid, Twisted Tales Of The "The Naked Trucker And T-Bones Show"; NEW YORK, March 27, 2006; Comedy Central: Shows - Naked Trucker & T-Bones Show.. Personal life
He is married to actress Leigh Koechner and has two children, Charlie and Margot. He also performs regularly in Los Angeles at both the ImprovOlympic West theater (in a show entitled Beer Shark Mice), and at Largo (in a show called The Naked Trucker and T-Bones Show with David 'Gruber' Allen).
