Science fiction writer and fan David A. Kyle has been a New York-based fan since the earliest days of organized science fiction fandom. Born February 14, 1919, he was an original member of New York's Futurians group, and, with Martin Greenberg, founded Gnome Press. Kyle has written two pictorial histories of science fiction and three licensed novels set in the Lensman universe. In addition, he has written hundreds of articles for various fanzines, including regular articles for Richard and Nicki Lynch's Mimosa.

Kyle attended the first WorldCon, and printed the "Yellow Pamphlet" which got several members of the Futurians banned from the convention by chairman Sam Moskowitz. He chaired the 1956 WorldCon, NyCon II, was created a Knight of The Order of Saint Fantony in 1961, and was awarded the Big Heart Award in 1973. Kyle was also Fan Guest of Honor at ConStellation, the 1983 WorldCon.

He appeared with Paul Levinson and Greg Bear on the History Channel's 2002 documentary, Fantastic Voyage: The Evolution of Science Fiction.
