Ellen Rona Barkin (born April 16, 1954) is an American actress.

Barkin was born in the Bronx, New York to a Jewish American family; she has a brother, George.

After studying at Manhattan's School of Performing Arts, Hunter College and the Actor's Studio, Barkin became a notable actress in the 1980s, appearing in several successful films, including the thriller Sea of Love, opposite Al Pacino.

Most of her recent appearances have been in supporting roles and in made-for-television films. Currently she voices the start of each Theme Time Radio Hour with host Bob Dylan on XM's Deep tracks.

Personal life

Barkin is the mother of two children, Jack (born 1989) and Romy Marion (born 1992) from her first marriage, to actor Gabriel Byrne, which ended in 1993 in an amicable divorce. Barkin started dating the much younger actor David Arquette (he was 23; she was 40).

In 2000 she married billionaire Ronald Perelman. They divorced in 2006 after she failed to attend his New Years Eve/Birthday party. New York magazine reported that she got between $20 million and $60 million in settlement costs. In October 2006, Christie's New York sold off jewelry given to her by Perelmanhttp://www.christies.com/special_sites/barkin/overview.asphttp://newyorkmetro.com/relationships/features/16469. In November 2006, the New York Post reported that she threw a glass of water in Perelman's face when she ran into him in a Manhattan restaurant.

Barkin once admitted in an interview that she often has to wear glasses because she has a condition that is causing her to lose some vision in one eye.
