Jaclyn Smith (born Jacquelyn Ellen Smith on October 26, 1945) is an American actress. She is best known for the role of Kelly Garrett in the television series Charlie's Angels (1976-1981), a light-hearted action series about three beautiful women who worked as private investigators. Smith was the only female lead to remain with the series for its complete run.
Smith was born in Houston, Texas to Jack Smith and Margaret Ellen Hartsfield.Birth place and name also confirmed with State of Texas birth records, at Ancestry.com Her father was a Jewish dentist, and maternal grandfather was a Methodist minister.
Smith has also appeared in over two dozen television movies and miniseries. In 1989, Smith had the title role in Christine Cromwell, a mystery television series which only lasted one season. Smith also had a recurring role in the television series The District. Since 1985, Smith has designed and promoted a clothing line for Kmart, which sells the clothes in its Kmart stores.
Smith has been married four times; to actors Roger Davis (1972-1975) and Dennis Cole (1978-1981), to filmmaker Tony Richmond (1981-1989), and to surgeon Brad Allen (since 1997). Smith has two children, Spencer Margaret and Gaston, from her marriage to Tony Richmond. She has also battled breast cancer successfully.
Smith reprised her Kelly Garrett role in a short cameo in the 2003 Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle feature film.
Trivia
Jaclyn Smith was offered to appear in the James Bond movie Moonraker with Roger Moore during her Charlie's Angels heyday. Lois Chiles took the role instead.
Burt Reynolds also offered her to be in the sequel of the blockbuster hit Cannonball Run. She had just given birth to her firstborn baby and rejected the offer. The role went to Catherine Bach.
Harper's Bazaar magazine announced in their Most Beautiful Women 1983 issue that Jaclyn Smith would star in the remake of the classic movie Dark Mirror. Jane Seymour (actress) ended up starring in the movie.
Comic strip artist Sy Barry came to draw Diana Palmer, wife of The Phantom, after Jaclyn Smith.
