Dixon wrote screenplays for films such as Outrageous Fortune, Overboard, Mrs. Doubtfire, The Thomas Crown Affair, Pay It Forward, and Freaky Friday. Dixon is the granddaughter of Farm Security Administration photographer Dorothea Lange and landscaper painter Maynard Dixon. She is married to fellow screenwriter Tom Ropelewski.
