Stephen McHattie Smith (born February 3, 1947 in Antigonish, Nova Scotia, Canada) is a Canadian actor.
A graduate of American Academy of Dramatic Arts, he has appeared in many films and television shows including Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, Star Trek: Enterprise, The X-Files and American Playhouse's Life Under Water (1989).
Films including A History of Violence, Secretary, Life with Billy, One Dead Indian, Maurice Richard, Beverly Hills Cop III. He also appeared in Canada: A People's History as Major-General Sir Isaac Brock.
He won the 1995 Gemini Award for Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role in a Dramatic Program or Mini-Series for Life with Billy.
He is currently married to actress Lisa Houle, with whom he has one child. He was previously married to Meg Foster.
McHattie was also in an episode of Seinfeld ("The Wallet") where he played a Dr. Reston, Elaine Benes psychiatrist/boyfriend. He has a clear hold over Elaine and constantly analyzes Elaine's personal life, even after she broke up with him.
