Rosemary Woodhouse
Rosemary's Baby
Played by Mia Farrow
Psycho, Carrie, Dead Alive -- there's no shortage of rotten mothers in horror. But if you wanted to explore who would occupy the opposite end of the spectrum, one choice ought to immediately jump out: Rosemary Woodhouse. As Roman Polanski’s tense thriller reveals Rosemary’s pregnancy cycle, we see her motherly devotion to her unborn, despite all the trials and tribulations of her unique circumstances: confrontations by bizarre neighbors with tannis-root drinks, a suspicious husband, weirdly blanching skin, and, er, demon rape. We say Rosemary's Baby's depiction of pregnancy is the craziest of all time; even Juno had some sassy friends and hipster irony to get her through it.
