Disney & Pixar about to Kiss and Make Up?
by Scott Weinberg | January 03, 2006
Discuss Article
According to Variety, the very successful partnership between Pixar Animation and the Disney Gang looks to continue unabated ... as long as everyone can agree to play nicely this time and share profits accordingly.

"There's been some buzz that Disney might take a stake in Pixar, or even purchase it outright (though the latter seems very unlikely.)

A key point is undoubtedly "Circle 7," the secretive division that Disney formed to make sequels to Pixar films, for which it has rights through next year's "Cars." (That film is the last under the partners' current deal.)

Production on "Toy Story 3" is already under way and the division is close to picking a second film to greenlight from several scripts under development -- most likely "Finding Nemo 2" or "Monsters, Inc. 2."

Sources indicate the next step -- picking a director -- is on hold until Disney and Pixar close their deal.

But in a sign of how close the two companies have again become, Disney CEO Bob Iger reportedly is keeping Pixar topper Steve Jobs and creative guru John Lasseter in the loop about developments at Circle 7 -- something former Disney topper Michael Eisner rarely did."

Seems like Bob Iger is nicely cleaning up the mess Michael Eisner left behind.

why Finding Nemo 2?
Is it gonna be like
Oh No! Nemo's gone again.
We got to find Beno.
Nemo.
Right.

Michael Eisner ruined Disney. This guy sounds like he might make the company.... at least decent again. But yeah, Finding Nemo 2 is gonna blow, and Monsters, Inc. 2 is a horrible idea. The first one kicked ass.

Sounds like Mr. Iger is doing a much better job, and hopefully these company's do make up, cause I really don't want Disney to make sequels to Pixar's movies without Pixar.

Do we really need all these animated sequels? It's bad enough that viritually every successful live action film needs a sequel do we really need to do the same thing with animated films? To be fair though the only two big budget animated sequels ever, Shrek 2 and Toy Story 2 were both really good. Maybe I'm just old school but I really like that Disney, Pixar, and Dreamworks have never really made much a big to do about sequels and instead focused on original products.

my opinion is with lovelykeira's.

Disney owns the rights to make sequels to all of the existing Pixar movies and WILL make those sequels. Might as well have Pixar make them so they will at least be decent. Pixar pulled off Toy Story 2 awesomely, I have no doubt they can come with ideas for sequels for the other Pixar movies. Just please, no "Bug's Life 2." That was the only Pixar movie I did not care for.

The sad thing is, Disney knows Finding Nemo made so much money that a sequel would likely make just as much. The sadder thing is, Finding Nemo 2 would unquestionably suck.

The Incredibles 2 would rock, though.

Figures some of the Disney haters would come out in full force, screw you all.

Yeah Eisner did run the company, creative-wise, down under towards the last 4 years of CEO. But you can't blame it all on him, he did after all set up things in the beginning that helped the studio, especially Disney TV Animation.

I was kind of hoping Disney would'nt go back to Pixar. Now that Pixar's made a name of themselves, they should think of their own damn way to distribute their movies now. But I suppose they couldn't do it without the Disney name attached.

Disney sucks, so I guess I'm screwed. Every single flick they make is so blah and bland and boring and marketed right towards middle America. Pixar on the other hand can make a movie with the same framework but fill it with wonderful characters and witty dialogue. Pixar just uses Disney for their resources; so either way this deal goes down as long as Pixar is at the creative helm making filcks then all is well.

Whatever happened to all the excellent tunes from Disney movies? Now it's all Elton John or Phil Collins crap that I can't remember five minutes after I hear it...

i would have to completely disagree. pixar is the only reason that disney still makes money at the box office. that and disney's agreement to distribute myasaki films. the company itself has not made a decent film in years. pixar could easily distribute on thier own. the general public consensus has already shifted. pixar is the epitome of animation today. disney is simply a joke. ask anybody on the street what was the last 100% disney film they liked, and most likely you'll be left with either mulan or the lion king or even lilo and stitch.

and don't think i say this because i "hate" disney. i don't. but the fact is, they've dropped the ball in the past few years.

not neccessarily...
Pixar may be a superb animation company but it still aint as good as the guys behind FFVII: Advent Children, the animation is way superior, even though it was done without motion capture. but the company behind it is not as big as pixar, their animation is way better.

Re-marriage. So touching.

Anyway, people, you honestly think they would make Nemo lost again? They're not the stupid. They're obviously working something else into the script. Perhaps Marlin finds his wife is not really dead.. somehow? Or what if it became 'Finding Dory' (although I don't support that one)? Anything is possible. And stop having a go at it when you haven't even been given a plot or anything. As for Monster's Inc, I won't judge, as I never had any desire to see this movie.

I agree with you. Pixar should stand alone instead of using the Disney name.

Pity.. it would be interesting to see where Pixar could go creatively without the albatross of Disney around its neck.

Does this mean that Pixar gets that 90% gross profit deal AND the sole ownership rights to their future projects after all? And what the hickety heck is so "secretive" of Circle 7? Sounds like an animated Star Chamber. Ooooooo.

ZZZING!

A Pixar sequel without pixar is silly... it'd be like Grease 2, completely wrong.

Choose Already
I wish they would make up their minds and decide whether they're enemies, allies, or don't care about each other, or whatever. Honestly, just choose something.

Just so long as any partnership brings stuff from the Pixar films into future Kingdom Hearts games...
