"Monster House" to Get the 3-D Treatment in Digital Theaters
by Scott Weinberg | July 18, 2005

When the Robert Zemeckis-produced animated adventure "Monster House" hits movie screens next July, a handful of theaters will offer you the 3-D experience. Created with the stop-motion animation style used in last year's "Polar Express," "Monster House" is about "three kids who must battle a house determined to eat every trick-or-treater on Halloween."

First-time writer/director Gil Kenan is hard at work on the movie, but the Sony film promises to arrive via 3-D in at least 100 theaters across the country, while the rest of the (very wide) release will be in plain old 2-D.

Voice-cast wise, "Monster House" seems to have a solid pedigree indeed: Kathleen Turner, Fred Willard, Steve Buscemi, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Kevin James, Jon Heder, Jason Lee, Catherine O'Hara, and Nick Cannon are all aboard, although the three kids will be voiced by relative newcomers Sam Lerner, Spencer Locke, and Mitchel Musso.

Pamela Pettler, writer of the upcoming "Corpse Bride," collaborated with Mr. Kenan on the "Monster House" screenplay.

Plot sounds good... I just don't know if I can take more Polar Express-style zombies - er - people.
