Anthropomorphism should be handled with care. When it reaches the Disney level, it becomes coloured by condescension -- which is the problem here.

The film takes us to the four corners of the globe, exploring the behavior and amusing displays of love among dozens of species in the animal kingdom from the most well known to the most reclusive. ANIMALS IN LOVE is a family film set to an original score by Philip Glass. This film, with its exceptional imagery, is a whirlwind of emotions reminding us of the passion that has guided the natural world since the dawn of time. [More]

Reviews for Animals in Love
While a list of the animals portrayed is shown in the end credits it would have been nice to have a bit more insight into species and location while we’re seeing them, particularly as the film lacks a strong narrative drive.
The images and subject matter are mesmerising, yet as a whole, the film feels fragmented . . . the cinematography is extraordinary so it is disappointing that the film as a whole is not more satisfying
Just think, if Travis Bickle had taken Cybill Shepherd's character in Taxi Driver to see this, instead of some porn flick depicting humans in love, they might well have hit it off.
The documentary Les animaux amoureux (Animals in Love) might seem cute on paper but lacks the rigour of recent documentary hits such as La marche de l'empereur (March of the Penguins) and Earth.
