Blood: The Last Vampire -- Exclusive Concept Art and Artist Profile
by Jen Yamato | July 02, 2009
Blog Article | Discuss Article
Summary

We've been fans of up-and-coming artist Alexandre Tuis for a while, so we jumped at the chance to speak with him about his work and share exclusive concept art from his latest project, the live-action manga adaptation Blood: The Last Vampire, which is out already in the UK and debuts stateside July 10. Tuis also graciously shared additional original art from his personal collection of pop culture-based work (including his rendering of Doug Jones as Frankenstein, created in honor of Guillermo del Toro's potential film adaptation) and concept art from films such as Dragonball: Evolution and Xavier Gens' horror film, Frontiere(s). We spoke with Tuis via email about his art, his influences, and his career aspirations. Read more inside. Back to Article

I have the distinct honor of calling Mr. Tuis a great friend. His work inspires me and my writing. I am a horror writer and his work just brings my best monsters forward!

The Smallville actor was Michael Rosenbaum, not Jonathan. He played Lex Luthor on the show. That Freddy pic does look like him too.

I can't tell you guys how much I'd be pleased to see this one work out. Blood deserves a competent adaptation if nothing else.

The Anime virsion was really good. The visual aspect of movie was the most interesting part...a little girl with a samurai sword, cutting massive creatures in half. Hope this film works out.

Yeah, the anime is pretty sweet. I think it has lots of potential for a great movie.

The anime is available from Netflix, including free streaming.

The anime was decent... this movie adaptation starts out promisingly enough but goes rapidly downhill after the first 20 minutes. Not dragon-ball bad but pretty bad nonetheless :p

I did put a plus sign after "Blood" but I guess it doesn't show up?

Saw the Anime Movie - Cool animation everything else sucked
Saw the series - Good potential but story dragged the 2nd half
Saw the Live Action Movie - I had no idea who this guy was until reading this article. Movie kinda sucks. The vampires look clumsy and cheesy. Looked like it was a low budget film. The action scenes are halfway decent. Don't go waiting in line to see this movie, just wait for the video. Oh and BTW all three adaptations have nothing to do with each other story wise.

This work is well done, yet standard concept art. The images look like every other piece of concept art around- broad gesture paint strokes created by a digital program. Technically proficient while otherwise bland.
