That night a heavy, mysterious fog rolls through the town and people begin to die in savage ways. Rumors of a secret as old as the town begin to surface and the people of Antonio Bay realize they are victims of long dead sailors who have come to revenge their own murders at the hands of the town's founding fathers. The townspeople can only wait for the fog to roll in and pray that they are not the next to die... Carpenter creates a chilling film with THE FOG and gets fine performances out of Adrienne Barbeau, Hal Holbrook, and the fog itself, which creeps and crawls around as if it were alive. The film elicits its scares out of what is not seen rather than what is, and Carpenter exploits that style perfectly. Vague shapes move within the fog, while strange noises heard in the distance grow louder, and no one can say exactly what they are up against. THE FOG is one of Carpenter's earlier films and helped to establish his reputation as a master filmmaker. [More]

Crucial factors are missing in yet another horror flick serving up a dull collection of stock types whose illogical and frequently stupid actions are necessary to advance plot and generate what passes for suspense.

A typical, gory ghost story done with a lot of very skillful atmosphere. One of the movies that made John Carpenter a name.

Was enough to keep a teenage boy awake at night, and can still give a grown man the creeps.

Not up to Carpenter's Halloween or The Thing, but a solid, atmospheric suspense film nevertheless.

Ten remakes wouldn't even surpass this creepy classic's greatness. The definitive horror film.

Carpenter's use of 2.35:1 anamorphic widescreen is beyond legendary and his compositions evoke a town that may as well be the last remaining one on the face of the earth.

The Fog is a ghost story with just the right balance of special effects artistry, menacing music and visual poetry.

O roteiro é de uma tolice pavorosa, mas Carpenter consegue gerar tensão e bons sustos até mesmo com o recurso absurdo de fazer seus vilões baterem na porta antes de entrar.

Sure, this is a ghost story, though because it is a film images display the action, and in result the intended horror is subsidized.
