Intrigued by the kids, Martin remains in Venice with them, becoming involved in their lives. In particular, he's charmed by Judith, the oldest girl. When Martin finally leaves Italy to reunite with Rose, the children, who have been abandoned, follow him. As Martin spends more and more time with Judith, he becomes less and less interested in Rose.
