Pullman makes his movie directorial debut and stars in this adaptation of the 1902 Owen Wister novel chronicling the adventures of a man who leaves his Virginia hometown to become the new Medicine Bow, Wyoming judge's foreman--and comes to be know only as the "Virginian." Shorty upon his arrival, he attempts to court (in true cowboy fashion) a stunning, strong-willed schoolteacher named Molly (Lane) who he immediately fancies. However, duty calls when a vicious range war breaks out leaving the Virginian to chastise those who crossed the line, and embark on a vigilante pursuit for their leader.
