Her job at a fashionable high-end clothing store is no accident--Niecy is an ambitious, intelligent, and stylish young woman who possesses a taste for the finer things in life. To get them, she has become a startling proficient shoplifter who filches clothes and credit cards with equal aplomb. However, when Niecy is lured into a risky scheme to steal a small fortune in diamonds with a local gang, she finds that life as a criminal may not be the best choice for her. A smart crime drama that is also a very sharp satire, LIFT is an engrossing film that takes the urban crime genre in a new direction. [More]

Reviews for Lift
A wonderfully acted, finely-crafted project that deserves our attention.
Lift is a worthy film that has something to say when it lets the action speak for itself, but when it starts speaking about the action -- the film feels tired.
The stuff about the three generations with the family, and the big drama, and the gang stuff that comes up, none of that worked for me, so I have to give it thumbs down.
Washington's performance is bold, as is a surprisingly powerful Barbara Montgomery as Niecy's grandmother.
Often incoherent and disappointingly lacking in insights beyond the obvious.
