Selling cosmetics door to door, she shows up at Maxwell Sheffield's Park Avenue door at just the right time; recently widowed, Maxwell is desperate to find a nanny for his three children, and invites Fran to have a go. Fran accepts, bringing not only her blue-collar sensibilities and eccentric cast of acquaintances into the upscale Sheffield home, but a new warmth as well, turning the troubled family into a happy, healthy one.
