Twelve Features Competing for Animated Feature Film Oscar
Submitted for your consideration: Alvin and the Chipmunks.
by Jeff Giles | November 09, 2007
Discuss Article
The nominations for the 80th Academy Awards won't be announced until January 22, but the names of the films being submitted for consideration are starting to trickle in.

Variety reports that in the animated feature film category, the Academy will have 12 movies to consider -- and whittle down to three nominees. From the article:

Submitted features are: "Alvin and the Chipmunks," "Aqua Teen Hunger Force Colon Movie Film for Theaters," "Bee Movie," "Beowulf," "Meet the Robinsons," "Persepolis," "Ratatouille," "Shrek the Third," "The Simpsons Movie," "Surf's Up," "Tekkonkinkreet" and "TMNT."

Yes, you read that right. Alvin and the Chipmunks. Think the voters will have problems narrowing down this list?

Poor poor Jason Lee. Please try harder.

Ratatouille should win.

How awesome would it be if ATHF wins an Oscar?

Beowulf -- Ratatouille -- The Simpsons Movie

That's my predicted short list.

"Alvin and the Chimpmunks" - Live action with animation, therefore, not an animated feature.

"Beowulf" - Computer enhanced live action. Not an animated feature.

I agree. "Ratatouille" should take it all.

Ratatouille most likely, but Beowulf will be quite entertaining, ATHF or the Simpsons, if they won, I don't know whether I could ever stop laughing

This category is such a sham. SPONGEBOB should have one back in '06

Screw the Best Animated Feature category. It was a cop out created after no one had the balls to give Beauty and the Beast the Oscar. Ratatouille should be up for Best Picture. Period.

This is getting ridiculous. Just because an animated film is released shouldn't qualify it for entry into that category. Crenshaw has it right. It's like the Academy is afraid of legitimizing animation.

Remember when Titanic came out? 2 movies were nominated for best picture. The least they can do is nominate only those that would deserve something like this.

god, are you serious? why the obsession over a sh3t animated movie...Rat better not win. hopefully Beowulf is half decent cuz the rest of the flix on there aren't "oscar" worthy. cute, but oscar winner? hardly. Rat up for best picture is as justified as Tobin Bell for Best Actor...in Saw. gimme a break

I'd say it's gonna be between Ratatouille, Beowulf and The Simpsons Movie.
Winner: Ratatouille.

Had TMNT used any of the actual villains from the series I would vote for that. I mean who didn't want to see Baxter Stockman, Mondo Gecko, and Rat King battle the Turtles.

12 are up for the award, but only one deserves it and that would be Ratatouille.

Ratatouille, the simpsons movie, and either beowulf or meet the robinsons, but im leaning more towards the first.
and persepolis might be a dark horse to consider, but ratatouille's a lock.

ratatouille is the obvious choice to win.. it was a critical darling and was probably the best reviewed movie of the year. the other two (simpsons movie, meet the robinsons) will just be filler cause ratatouille already has it!!

When did Paprika come out? If it was this year then that movie could have a chance at winning.
