"3:10 to Yuma" Arriving Sooner Than Expected
by Jeff Giles | July 10, 2007
Discuss Article
From Variety comes word that Lionsgate -- perhaps realizing the box-office power of the first film ever to achieve the elusive marketing overlap of Christian Bale fans, Russell Crowe fans, and unkempt cowboys -- will be moving director James Mangold's "3:10 to Yuma" up on the release schedule.

The Bale/Crowe-led Western, originally targeted for October, will now be released September 7.

Aside from giving ranchers and rustlers a reason to celebrate, the move allows Lionsgate to jockey ahead in the ever-earlier "fall prestige market," in which films ostensibly too complex and quiet for summer moviegoers are crammed into cineplexes in a frantic bid for awards consideration.

And if "crammed" sounds too strong, consider that, in addition to "Yuma," fall's predestined contenders include the Brad Pitt-led "The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford," the Coen Brothers' "No Country for Old Men," Paul Haggis' "In the Valley of Elah," Ang Lee's "Lust, Caution," David Cronenberg's "Eastern Promises," Sean Penn's "Into the Wild," and Peter Berg's "The Kingdom."

I can't wait to see this. I'm a fan of Mangold. Love Crowe, love Bale even more. This is going to be fantastic. Ben Foster is just insane. I'll be first in line.

I want to see it, but early September would hurt its box office take. Not that it's that vital to this movie to have a big opening. But a whimper could drop it out of the theaters quickly too.

wow that is a big fall lineup of films that all sound oscar worthy...but of course that means some of them will utterly fail at that bid...so which was are going to be utter crap? I see Ang lee and Paul Haggis being the ones to fall on their faces....Penn is always solid...I think The Jesse James film could be a dark horse but the Kingdom looks and sounds more like a really cool/good film as opposed to an oscar film.

Im so much more excited to see some of these fall movies coming up than any of the summer blockbusters. "3:10" really looks cant miss, but we will see.
And "No Country for Old Men" looks like it can be absolutly amazing.

Happy birthday to me, well it's coming out one day after but still hell yeah. Hopefully this doesn't hurt it at the box office though, September's usually not the best month to come out.
