Evie Brighton (SIX FEET UNDER's Lauren Ambrose) is a bright yet troubled teenager who secretly writes poetry and cares for her retarded sister Emily (Taylor Roberts), whose mental disability was caused by a childhood injury that still haunts their guilt-stricken mother Martha (Amy Madigan). When Emily begins reciting some of her older sister's poetry, Evie concocts a ruse that convinces Martha and her high school English teacher Stewart Worthy (Christopher Lloyd) that Emily is the true author--all while purposely sabotaging her own college interviews to further delay the onset of adulthood. Adapted by playwright Dawn O'Leary from her stage play of the same name, director Melissa Painter's Sundance-produced indie feature ADMISSIONS is at once a tender coming-of-age drama and an emotionally nuanced portrait of complex family dynamics.
