For the most part, the affable, loose approach to filming works well in eliciting a genuine worldview from the film’s (largely likeable) subjects.

Consensus: An affable hairdressing documentary that means well but doesn’t really reach for any great heights; just like a hairdresser's chitchat.

Reviews for Afro Saxons
Big hair and bigger egos make for an entertaining and frequently amusing documentary.
It’s an unpolished and slightly chaotic film that whisks the viewer breathlessly from salon to salon, without stopping to get to know any of the key characters in real depth.
In its unpretentious way, this film has something to say about creativity and entrepreneurialism in modern Britain, and it's impossible to watch it without a smile on your face.
But it’s good to see a vision of modern-day urban life free of grimy, gun-slinging clichés.
But while the gravity-defying creations, tonsorial trickery and intricate braidwork impress, the film is remarkably drab.
It’s a warm-spirited, well-intentioned movie, yet offers a repetitive, visually humdrum and ultimately superficial portrait of its chosen milieu that seems much better suited to the small screen.
This documentary from Rachel Wang and Mark Currie about the stylists at the Black Beauty and Hair Awards is sharp and often funny.
