Mixing vintage... Jon Bokenkamp and a tiny camera crew venture across the West to research and speculate about the drive-in theatre, a vanishing experience that was formerly an American touchstone. Mixing vintage and current footage, Bokenkamp examines open and closed drive-ins, conducts interviews with BEACH BLANKET BINGO producer Samuel Z. Arkoff, satirist Joe Bob Briggs, writer Michael Wallis, BIG TROUBLE IN LITTLE CHINA director John Carpenter, and owners of both open and closed drive-ins. Over five thousand drive-ins graced the American landscape at the phenomenon's height in the 1950s, but only a few hundred remained when this fast-paced and hugely entertaining documentary appeared, with more closures all the time.
