A recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize in 1953, Schweitzer was one of the 20th century's great thinkers. He also had a passion for the works of Johann Sebastian Bach, and not only played his music on the piano and organ, but wrote a book on the subject. This documentary offers footage of Schweitzer at work, as actors Fredric March and Burgess Meredith provide voice-over narration. With 40 minutes of extra footage inserted into this version of the film, this is the definitive visual document on Schweitzer. When the movie was first released it garnered plenty of acclaim, and picked up the Academy Award for Best Documentary. [More]
