Reviews for The Animation Show 2005
Exhibits a weakness that's typical of such outings: Its eager young contributors don't have nearly enough ideas of a narrative nature to justify their tedious displays of technical virtuosity.
About half of them aren't worth the effort that plainly went into them.
Features more 'exclusive' shorts than the previous year's version. And the shorts are more creative, imaginative and dazzlingly animated.
The batting average isn't perfect for these 12 shorts, ... but the best stuff is worth the ticket price.
The Animation Show serves as a corrective to the limited views of what animation is and provides an avenue for worthy short subjects to be seen on a wider scale.
From the silly, to the beautiful, to the terminally lame and pretentious, there’s a little something for every taste here…
A lovely, refined collection that will remind viewers not only of the myriad forms that animated films can take but also of the sheer otherworldliness inherent in the form.
Think of watching The Animation Show as similar to eating a bag of Jelly Bellies. Some of the time, you get something fantastic and some of the time, you get stuck with a jalapeno or a buttered popcorn.
One hates to dismiss the efforts of those trying to support short films nowadays, but the average in this compilation just isn't high enough to warrant a visit.
