Time for Another Round of "Alien vs. Predator"
by Scott Weinberg | August 01, 2006
Discuss Article
September 23rd marks day one on production of "Alien vs. Predator: Survival of the Fittest," the sequel nobody demanded to an original that nobody seemed to like. But hey, maybe Part 2 will be an improvement over the watchable-but-disappointing first entry.

We know that the creature creators are returning for another go-round, but we haven't heard a whole lot in the casting department...

From Fangoria: "Tom Woodruff Jr. and Alec Gillis of Amalgamated Dynamics, veterans of the first "AVP" and all the previous "Alien" sequels, will encore on the creature FX. The Shane Salerno script places the battling extraterrestrials on U.S. soil (the Midwest); FX pros Colin and Greg Strauss make their feature directorial debuts on the December 21, 2007 Fox release."

...and wouldn't Darwin be proud of that title?

*groan* the first one was easily the worst movie i've seen in a very long time. It was the first and still only time I've ever thought about walking out of a movie.

AVP - the movie that everyone loved
If you're not a movie critic, and you're not on the commitee that decides academy awards, then you went in to AVP expecting to see a fun, monster vs. monster movie, and that's what you got.

I thought AVP was a great movie. I thought the use of the lead character was very well done, the story line was good, and there was some good monster fights.

Although, I was hoping for a little more Preditor action. It's like X-Men, you wish they would use their super-powers more.

So with AVP 2, set your expectations low, and you'll come out on top.

movie execs are really that bored, eh?

Well, i have a great movie concept for you, you ready for this? I don't want any of you stealing my idea either... The title is "Turds: Survival of the Stinkiest" It involves 2 hours of people taking dumps agaisnt their will to uncover a goverment conspiracy that's hiding the true source of smelly shit.

i'm a friggin genius.

I dunno about you, but when I go in to see a fun, monster vs. monster movie, I want to see a fun, monster vs. monster movie and not a short 5-second brawl between title monsters in question and the lead chick and a Predator running in slow motion while something behind them explodes.

At least I know that AVP2 won't disappoint becuase my expectations couldn't possibly be lower.

AVP 2 R?
If it's not R-rated this time, then there's really no point, now is there?

i am so sick of this pg13 horror crap alien was rated r and predetor was rated r so why wasn't alien vs predetor rated R. why not just make predetor pg13 so it could of drawn a younger audience.

once Paul Writes Shitty Anderson gets his grubby mits on a franchise, he never lets it die out, no matter how bad the movies are. because no matter how bad they are, there are still stupid people who will see them and they will make money off them.

Well....the first one was stupid. Duh. However...I feel that they MIGHT be able to fix some of the wrongs that plagued the original. If so, then they could make a pretty good film out of this, despite the title. I have my fingers crossed for this one, but I'm not getting my hopes up, either.

They'll probably make the alien win this time, just to please fans that might have been upset over the predator's victory in the first movie. I could care less, though. That movie was garbage. It could have been decent, but the idea of a bunch of explorers going up against 2 of the coolest movie monsters isn't that interesting. Maybe if the humans get more firepower, it'll be watchable. But I kind of doubt it.

They should get rid off the U.S. setting have it aboard the predator ship ( continuation of the the first movie) or an a different planet (Aliens). I dont need the dialogue, they can caption it on the screen when the Predators talk and make it 90 minutes of pure adrenaline rush like Aliens and also make it dark like the first Alien movie.

Jeezus, I thought I'd never see the day when a movie (or the idea of the movie) I'd been waiting for so long, would acutally fill me with dread to see a sequel. They should have made AvP back when the idea was hatched and all the original makers of the Aliens universe could have been onboard.

AvP sucked, mainly because Anderson tried too hard to interprete the AvP series, whilst attempting to add some sort of continiuty to the past movies. He should have grown a pair and made AvP as it should've been. A stand alone series where the events of the Alien saga or Predator movies had no relevance, not a popcorn spinoff.

"The sequel nobody demanded to an original that nobody seemed to like."

It's weird how this keeps happening. ("Garfield 2"???) I thought Hollywood executives were more careful about how they spent their money.

Wes Anderson is the guy that wrote The Royal Tennenbaums with Clive Owen.

It's Paul W.S. Anderson. Which really hurts because my name is Paul Andersen. There goes my shot in the movie business (like I had one...).

The problem with the original was that they were trying to open the movie franchises for newcomers, making it PG-13 and such. They needed to make it for the fanboys. Set it in the future, make it rated R, and give us this line
"You are one ugly motherfuc%&#$!!!" It just wasn't a Predator movie without that line.
Oh yeah, and don't have Paul W.S. Anderson write or direct it.
It should be more like the PC games and the books. At least the people that made those seemed to enjoy the franchises
