The boys are back and badder than ever. Martin Lawrence and Will Smith reunite with producer Jerry Bruckheimer and director Michael Bay for another exhilarating and high-intensity action adventure in Bad Boys II. The danger quotient is heightened and so are the laughs in this new installment as Miami narcotics detectives Mike Lowrey (Smith) and Marcus Burnett (Lawrence) become part of a high-tech task force assigned to stem the flood of designer ecstasy into Miami. They unwittingly uncover a deadly conspiracy involving a ruthless drug lord, played by Jordi Mollà, who is determined to expand his empire and take control of the city's burgeoning narcotics trade, killing anyone who stands in his way. To make matters worse, Marcus' beautiful sister Syd (Gabrielle Union), an undercover DEA agent, gets caught in the crossfire, forcing our heroes to the edge of the law. The assignment takes on further complications when romantic sparks start to fly between Mike and Syd, driving her overly protective brother completely around the bend. But Marcus and Mike must overcome their differences to bring down Tapia. And when Syd's cover is jeopardized, it's up to the Bad Boys to rescue her. Bad Boys II struggles with striking a balance between the rib-tickling humor and gut-wrenching gore, the hah and ick mixing like oil and vinegar.

It’s not always tasteful and it’s nowhere near as fun as the original, but it’s a slick thrill ride that thankfully has a surprisingly raw, pounding edge.

It's big, loud, about half-an-hour to an hour overlong, and devoid of the things that make big, loud action flicks entertaining.

As the credits would suggest, this film needs more Don Simpson and less Michael Bay.

An action flick worthy of a John McTiernan, if not a John Woo.

Bad Boys II plays like one huge "f**k you" to [Bay's] critics by giving them all that they expect from him to the nth degree.

All the funny moments, violence and loud noises in the world can’t obscure the fact that this is a bloated, ludicrous, over-noisy empty-headed summer popcorn flick.

Bay throws everything that is wrong with this world into his film, and the result is often blissful debauchery. Quite terrible in spots, but Lawrence and Smith are very funny.

Bad Boys II lumbers in and refuses to leave, erupting every few minutes with overblown action set pieces as if they were some kind of cinematic flatulence

Fans of Smith, Lawrence and Bay will no doubt find it an embarrassment of riches; others, just an embarrassment.

Pauline Kael once famously described 'Dirty Harry' as fascist. But it's brain-dead, escapist movies like this that propagandize, however cluelessly, for public acceptance of a lawless class of 'law enforcers'...

Bad Boys 2” is exactly what a summer sequel should be – bigger, better and badder than the original.

I saw this movie on a triple-dog dare. I wish I had opted to wait six months so I could stick my tongue to a flagpole in the freezing cold for an hour. A cinematic fist to the groin.
