Consensus: Loud, excessively busy, and often boring, Batman Forever nonetheless has the charisma of Jim Carrey and Tommy Lee Jones to offer mild relief.

Here the Caped Crusader must once again contend with two strange-looking, personality-impaired villains. First, there's maniacal ex-DA Harvey Two-Face, so named because half his countenance has been horribly disfigured by acid. Then there's the wise-cracking, hyperactive Riddler, whose alter-ego Edward Nygma is a nerdy, highly disgruntled ex-employee of Bruce Wayne. Together, these two masterminds plan to conquer the world with a device that not only mesmerizes users with 3-D television images, but also transports the viewer's thoughts into the Riddler's mind. Batman also has to contend with two other new people in his life. One is lovely psychiatrist Chase Meridian, who has fallen in love with Batman AND Bruce Wayne. Then there's Dick Grayson, a young, orphaned acrobat who desperately wants to become Batman's crime-fighting sidekick in order to get revenge on the man responsible for his parents' death: Harvey Two-Face. Reviews for Batman Forever
This would only appeal to die-hard fans of Batman. Then again, it might make die-hard fans cry.
Weak plot, complete lack of character development and at least some actors who didn't look particularly interested in their roles.
Batman Forever is in and out but wins in the end by staying true to its unbridled comic spirit.
This loud and boisterous comic book confidential is serviceable enough to satisfy.
Jim Carrey plays the Riddler and once he shows up, all the other actors might just as well go home.
No surprises, no mysteries, no moments out of time that fill us with awe or wonder. The best that can be said is that the movie does what it sets out to do very well.
The motion picture equivalent of a Twinkie, this is simple, high-cholesterol entertainment that doesn't pretend to be anything else.
The plot has enough holes to drive the Batmobile, the Batplane, and the Batboat through.
Carrey lights up an otherwise over-scripted, over-frenetic potboiler.
It's lighter, brighter, funnier, faster-paced, and a whole lot more colorful than before.
