Deborah Harry Chooses Kirsten Dunst for Blondie Biopic
Gondry project still on the drawing board.

Discuss Article
The tide is high, but Kirsten Dunst is holding on.

Dunst, recently confirmed to be playing Blondie frontwoman Deborah Harry in Michel Gondry's forthcoming biopic about the band, has already had to deal with the message-board howling of disgruntled fans -- but she can rest comfortably in the knowledge that she was approved for the role by none other than Harry herself.

In a recent interview with Spinner, Harry backed up Dunst's assertion that "Debbie chose me for this role," telling the site:

"She's a really sweet person...I've met with her a couple of times and hung out with her socially. She's just a sweetie."

Does that mean she could handle the role, though?

"I think so. She's probably capable of a lot of things she hasn't been asked to do yet, and doing something that's sort of left of center would be great for her."

The article refers to the Blondie film as being "still in the planning stages."

kirsten dunst can't act her way out of a paper bag. her only solid role was in the virgin suicides where she basically played herself - a narcissitic skank.

Why would you have to act your way out of a paper bag?

Yeah, that is a very odd saying.

I think this is the first time the actress playing someone famous is much worse looking than the original. Deborah Harry was super hot and Dunst is fug. Hell even now Harry is better looking.

is there serious interest in a blondie biopic? i mean i like "call me" as much as the next guy, but a feature film? maybe a VH1 made for TV movie.

"...out of a paper bag" was one of the funniest moments in the Comedy Central roast of William Shatner, i.e. a roaster held up a paper bag and said to Shatner, "settle a bet for me and act your way out of this."

Ok I really don't care for Dunst that much, but you have to admit that she was pretty good in Interview With a Vampire, which I beleive was her first role....too bad she hasn't really done anything special since then.

I don't mind Dunst. I like Blondie and I love Gondry. So overall I'm pretty damn pumped about this.

Does nobody have faith in Michael Gondry? The man who gave us Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind?

I like Dunst, I think she can act and I believe she could pull this job off... I am not sure however, if she is the best choice for this role... Maybe Scarlett Johansson would of been a better choice? Come to think of it, how about casting Scarlett Johansson in every role... Scarlet for President!!!!
