Penny, an erstwhile poet, supports Mary and herself by prostituting herself and seems headed towards disaster until she starts getting letters from a convict (Sweeney) who has read her book of poetry and attracts the attention of a young man who lives around the corner. An intense story about life, death, alienation and the need for human contact, THE BOOK OF STARS is a beautifully filmed and ultimately uplifting meditation on these themes. [More]
