Consensus: Squandering its impressive cast with poorly-directed gags, The Brothers Solomon is a one-joke film stretched well beyond its limits.

Dean and John Solomon are very close. In fact, they are so close that they live together in a baby-blue apartment, even as adults. Having been home-schooled in the Arctic, the brothers have grown to depend on each other completely, and have been robbed of learning many basic social skills. The men are clueless in the department of romance, and when they discover their beloved father (Lee Majors) is on his deathbed, they suddenly feel the pressure to procreate before he's gone. Determined to make their father proud, they set out to woo a woman into having their baby, hardly grasping the many obstacles that are sure to come their way. Arnett and Forte seem at ease playing overgrown boys who never grew up. Both comedians sport toothy grins and exaggerated frowns as they navigate the tricky world of dating and the even more difficult dilemma of trying to find a woman to impregnate. Luckily, one woman, Janine (SNL's Kristin Wiig in an oddly straight role), agrees to do it if they pay her. But the more she observes of the brothers' immaturity, the more she must be convinced they are capable of raising a child. This is the third feature film directed by multi-talented comedian Bob Odenkirk (of MR. SHOW fame). While his first film, MELVIN GOES TO DINNER, was a stark social drama, his more recent LET'S GO TO PRISON had much in common with this quirky comedy. Combined with the over-the-top acting styles of his two stars (and fellow Odenkirk fave Chi McBride as Janine's tough teddybear boyfriend), Odenkirk's offbeat sensibility produces a film packed with awkwardly humorous moments. A syrupy fable about love and family? What happened?

There’s no good time of the year for such a depressingly insincere movie that shirks any sense of reality but still desperately claws for emotional redemption at the end. Better to abort next time.

The script focuses more on its over-egged punchlines than any genuine attempt to tell a story that might amuse us. And it feels like a one-gag sketch stretched beyond the breaking point.

Wanna see a raunchy, hilarious adult comedy? Then by all means go to "Superbad," the not-so-surprise hit about being a teen-ager that's definitely for grownups.

In real life, if you met John (Arnett) and Dean Solomon (Will Forte), you'd probably walk away thinking they were either suffering from some mental disorder or serial killers in training.

A readily-forgettable romantic comedy which, unfortunately, entirely fails to be funny along the way

The film as a whole encounters some bumps in the road, but it is also better than most will be expecting.

A better film would have matched Arnett's seemingly effortless intensity throughout. This okay film does merely okay by it.

If anyone is to blame for this bomb it's Forte: He wrote the thing, and one would assume he's the one responsible for those uncomfortable silences where jokes are supposed to be.

Neither Odenkirk's limp direction nor SNL alumnus Will Forte's script -- not nearly clever enough to get away with its questionable gags about matters sexual and racial -- provides much by way of actual plot or comedy.

It's hard to hate a movie that tries so valiantly to resurrect the career of Lee Majors. But even that noble task ultimately fails.

A strong argument for birth control and 2007's worst comedy to date.

Better suited to 10 minutes of television than 90 minutes of cinema.
