Brad Pitt Exploring Lost City of Z
Attached to produce, possibly star in Paramount project.

Brad Pitt is heading into the Amazon.

Variety reports that Paramount has purchased the film rights to David Grann's Lost City of Z, with Pitt attached to produce -- and possibly star. From the article:

Grann's forthcoming nonfiction book concerns British explorer Col. Percy Harrison Fawcett, who was attempting to find the so-called City of Z when he and his party disappeared in 1925. Over the next 70 years, scores of explorers tried and failed to retrace Fawcett's path, including a 1996 expedition of Brazilian adventurers. Pitt would play Fawcett.

As Variety notes, Lost City of Z joins a relatively crowded slate of acting and producing projects for Pitt. He'll be seen onscreen twice this year -- in the Coen brothers' Burn After Reading, opening in September, and David Fincher's The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, reaching screens in December -- and is producing the Rachel McAdams/Eric Bana-led adaptation of The Time Traveler's Wife.

While Brad Pitt is a fine actor He is terrible at accents. One only has to look at The Devils Own to discover this.
It will be interesting to see what he does in relation to this film.
Like the idea though. it sounds interesting.

if he just picked the role in the departed rather than babel then pitt would get more attention for his acting rather than being just a hunk guy who looks good and pretty cool on movies. babel was good, but he's part was too small for a guy like him. if he picked the departed then other of his award films in the future would be widely recognized(Assasination of Jesse James) he would have gotten an oscar nomination if you ask me... some actor just gets nomination cause they have a reputaion as a good actor, even if they don't quite deserve it. namely tommy lee jones--in the valley of elah. common guys, emile hirsch should have gotten that. so if he starred in departed then he may have gotten an oscar nomination for the following year for AOJJ, cause we all know that the departed ruled that year, its impossible if he's next award film coudn't be recognized

You're SO right, Spitting. I dig him as an actor, but his accent work can be distractingly bad. In fact, it's often pretty darn funny. If you can stay awake long enough, there's a hilarious bit in Meet Joe Black where he slips into a Jamaican accent. Priceless unintentional comedy.

But I have to agree ... cool idea for a movie.

Sounds pretty damn good, hopefully he acts in it, both of his films this year I'm really looking forward to and AOJJ is still my favorite film from last year and I just have a couple left to see.

Reminds me a bit of Aguirre, The Wrath of God.

Brad Pitt's progressed to the point where pretty much any movie he agrees to act in is at least worth keeping an eye on. Mr. and Mrs. Smith really was a while ago, wasn't it? Since then, he seems to be attempting to star in the best movies possible now that he's a big enough name to be allowed to have a choice in his roles. I mean, who isn't looking forward to Burn After Reading and The Curious Case of Benjamin Button? Here's hoping Brad Pitt keeps his streak going.

Hey I thought he did a pretty good job as a pikey. Oddly enough Guy Ritchie decided to make Pitt a pikey after discovering he was terrible with accents.
