Cannes 2009: Pattinson Confirms Twilight 4
Photogenic star committed to Breaking Dawn.

As if there was ever any doubt, Robert Pattinson - currently filming the second and third instalments of Twilight back-to-back - confirmed in Cannes today that, yes, they'll make the fourth movie as well.

He told The Hollywood Reporter that he's committed to the adaptation of Breaking Dawn, but isn't sure when it will film yet because of his extensive list of other commitments. This includes the likes of Unbound Captives - with Hugh Jackman - and romantic drama Remember Me.

The swoon-inducing star is just finishing up shooting New Moon in Italy, and plans to head back to Vancouver in October to wrap Eclispe. He said his role in New Moon was challenging because for much of the film his character is "just a voice in Bella's head."

He went on: "You're playing a figment in Bella's imagination so I was trying to do it in a 2D way. I hope it doesn't translate onscreen as being boring."

New Moon is released on November 20 in the US, and a week later in Britain, whilst Eclipse hits theatres in June 2010.

Yes, Summit is rushing things with the Twilight Saga, but there is good reason for them to do so. The books attracted a huge tween-girls-and-their-moms audience, but ultimately lack the depth and substance of the Harry Potter books. I think that they are right to cash in on this one while the property is still hot.

Can they rush it without harming it? It seems like they are doing so. Chris Weitz is directing New Moon right nowand while he is in post-production on it, David Slade will be filming the third book. Both of those directors are a major upgrade from Hardwicke (who may just have been unsuited for the material, but did an awful job on Twilight). Weitz has done teens (American Pie) and big budget sci-fi (The Golden Compass- not a great one, I know, but the effects were good and the story was far more complex than he is dealing with on New Moon). Slade has done the teenage girl protagonist thing (Hard Candy) and the vampire thing (30 Days Of Night).

Twilight was amusing in a so-awful-it-is-funny way, but despite that I am still interested in what the next two films will be like. There is potential for vastly improved films. My wife will be watching them non-stop once they hit DVD, so I certainly hope that I am right.

humans age...vampires don't. This may be a great reason to rush filming...

I agree with earthbound. Chris Weitz is faaar better than Hardwicke. First of all, if you've seen the preview, you notice there is actually COLOR in the movie! Twilight was so gray and dull. And I agree about how Weitz has more experience in this area of movie. Teens and effects. Hardwicke seemed clueless, and the fans and viewers noticed.

Also, I've read The Golden Compass, and the movie was pretty close to it. So, for any peole out there who are worried about New Moon and how close The movie will be to the book, I say relax. I think Weitz knows better.
