This charming sex comedy, considered risqué at the time of its release, stars Gary Cooper as Casanova Brown, a mild-mannered English teacher about to wed his sweetheart when he discovers that his ex-wife has delivered a child--and that he is the father. When his ex decides to put the girl up for adoption, Casanova can't cope--he kidnaps the child to raise the gorgeous little girl himself. The comedy here lies in the traditionally heroic Cooper having trouble handling diapers and other simple facets of child rearing. As Casanova recognizes his own incompetence, both his ex-wife and his fiancée discover the child's whereabouts, forcing Casanova into the position of a man simultaneously facing two women spurned. Teresa Wright turns in a competent performance and a pretty face as Isabel Drury, Casanova's ex, but the real stars of the film are the fine sets and the lovely soundtrack. [More]
