A Heroes/Cloverfield Crossover?
Also: Watch the HD Cloverfield trailer!
by Jeff Giles | November 21, 2007
Discuss Article | Blog Article | Email To A Friend
So now we know that the J.J. Abrams-produced "untitled monster movie project" will be called Cloverfield when it hits theaters on January 18. We've even seen the trailer. But if you thought all the mysteries surrounding the project had been solved, guess again.

Heroes director/co-executive producer Greg Beeman, in his Beaming Beeman blog entry recapping the show's just-aired "Cautionary Tales" episode, teased the possibility of some sort of Cloverfield/Heroes crossover, posting pictures of various castmembers posing with cups of delicious frozen Slusho! drinks. Dig it:

As other sites have already pointed out, Heroes' Greg Grunberg is an old friend of Abrams, and has appeared in pretty much everything he's done, so this could just be a case of buddies having a behind-the-scenes goof -- but Beeman does say these shots are in the "don't ask/don't tell" category. And just imagine the fanboy insanity that would erupt if this does turn out to be a crossover. Savvy guy, that Abrams.

Oh, and speaking of the Cloverfield trailer, you no longer need to content yourself with a patched-together cellphone camera edit -- the HD version is now up. Click on the Apple link to see it!

Heroes is all hype. Not to mention a rip-off of "The Uncanny X-Men". Yeah, remember them?

If you've ever read any comics (especially X-men or Watchmen) than Heroes is nothing new. I like the show but it's pretty predictable. They rip off a lot of comic book storylines. Especially 'Days of the future past',

Since they don't have any costumes i guess it's easier to accept as realistic to mainstream america.

On the other hand a crossover would be awesome from that Cloverfield trailer than monster looks unstoppable. They'll need some superpowered folk to take him out. Where's the Justice league when you need them?

Slusho! was actually shown in the "Cautionary Tales" episode. Elle is drinking one when she is in the car with Mohinder.

I have a screenshot of it here: http://cloverfieldclues.blogspot.com/2007/11/slusho-and-heroes.html

Also, Slusho was featured in the second episode of Alias, a JJ Abrams show: http://cloverfieldclues.blogspot.com/2007/07/origin-of-slusho.html

i find heroes to be a pretty damn well-produced show. sure, there are definitely some cheesy characters here and there, but if you started watching it from the beginning, it's pretty hard not to get sucked in. it would definitely be odd to see TV stars in a movie, but it would definitely be pretty original!

thats just stupid!!!

thats like saying any video game with a main charcter hero is base on Super Mario brothers! If you actually watched the SHOW you will realize how off base you are.
And before you question me, yes I'm familiar with x-men.

1) Different medium, totally different set of rules. Its apples and oranges.
2) Heroes is not a team of super heroes nor do they even try to be. Everyone is quite ordinary and they have very little control very limited comprehension of what they can or can not do.
3) NO the show is not more realistic because they don't wear costumes. Its more realistic beacause everyone just wants to live ordinary lives, There is no batman charcater who goes out at night and fights crime. They just want to go to school, go to work, take care of their family and live their lives like everyone else.

I'm just tired of the dismissiveness of the show when it is obvious the people who make such comments have never seen it.

The ripoff of Watchmen during the Season one story arc was pretty aggregious. I like the show, but I came very close to not watching following that.

Another thing that makes Heroes VERY VERY relatable is the fact the the show has a heavy and strong under current theme of fate. Meaning the show seems less about people with powers but more about people fighting against a pre set destiny. I think we can all relate to being trapped and seemingly stuck on one path in our lives no matter how hard we struggle or try to change, we seem to be powerless against our fate. Well IMO thats is the true theme of the show Heroes. yes its very greek tragedy.

I know thats the theme of some of the future X-men story lines, but as I've stated before, just because the themes are similar doesn't mean they are the same. Because if we want to go that route we can say X-men writers stole the idea from Back to the Future or maybe Terminator movies.

Oooohhh... JJ crossovers: Hiro travels to the 22nd century meets Spock, goes back in time to "put things right" and right at the end of the movie, he rescues Kirk from his death-by-faulty-infrastructure! This sets up both Star Trek XII: The Search for Hair! Oh, the geekjaculation!

X-Men's Days of Future Past, which many people say Heroes ripped off, came out in 1981, a good three years before Terminator and four years before Back To The Future, so to say that story rips off either of them makes no sense. We're not saying that the show is just like the comics themselves, we're saying that they've obviously either been influenced or straight up ripped off a few of the memorable STORYLINES of well known comic books.

Like if one of them becomes almost god like in power, but then it's revealed that it's actually a cosmic entity possessing them and an alien race comes to earth to destroy it, but the entity makes the 'hero' go dark and try to destroy things before inevitably sacrificing him/herself, then regardless of whether or not a guy has claws popping out of his fists or shooting laser beams from their eyes, it's still a blatant rip off of The Dark Phoenix Saga from Uncanny X-Men (Let's just hope they don't actually go there, I'm just being a bit dramatic but it makes the point)

I like heroes, I dont like x-men very much. But i think if Heroes is too similar to anything then it has to be UNBREAKABLE. In fact I thought Heroes was a direct tv spinnoff of Unbreakable when it first came out. If it is a rip off, AM I bothered???... NO! Because it is still great. X-Men movies Sucked! Thats the big difference.

I know this is pointless, but it will make me feel better. I have a very simple solution for the bitchy people who post on every Heroes related story about how bad, lame, or derivative the show is. Don't watch the show! Thank you for allowing me to solve your problem.

@NoGard46

It is a rip-off of X-men. Less costumes, same themes. You can argue the fate thing sorta, even if many X-men plots revolve around that very idea. Let's see... Messiah Complex, Days of Future Past, Alan Moore's New X-men... and that's just off the top of my head. You can say they ripped off Terminator, except the only similarity there is an imperfect future. With Heroes/X-men you have natural born superpowers, government control, mental powers, and even a healing chick that rips off Wolverine. I could go on, but I won't.

@LostHeroesHell

I believe an even closer tie in would be when Hiro mentions Kitty Pride and the Days of Future Past storyline in the very first episode. They knew where their inspiration came from.

@Well... nobody in particular...

The show is kinda fun if you know nothing of comics. I think it's stilted and hackneyed, but that's because I'm familiar with the source ideas. The funny thing for me is that my friends who are REALLY into it are not fans of comics, but share that kind of reclusiveness and daydreaming quality you often see in comic fans. (I'm a comic fan, so don't get defensive there).
