Grief... The news that all parents dreaded during the Vietnam war reaches a suburbanite couple (John Marley and Lynn Carlin) when they learn that their son has perished and will not be returning home. Grief stricken, the couple find the news hard to accept. Good news occurs a few days later, however, when their son returns home, seemingly unscathed from battle. But when he starts displaying zombie-like tendencies, it appears that he's not dead--he's one of the UNdead... Featuring the special effects debut of the legendary Tom Savini, this potent zombie film from Bob Clark (BLACK CHRISTMAS, A CHRISTMAS STORY) was also one of the first movies to tackle the subject of the Vietnam war. Time Out

A disturbing low-budget horror film that doubles as a critique of America's involvement in Vietnam.

Deliberate, uncompromising, and very sad, Bob Clark's quiet masterpiece is still one of the most inspired anti-war genre pics out there.

Bloody Disgusting

Grim, tasteless and inexplicably overrated trash.

John Marley imbues the film with the kind of pathos that wears down the defenses of a principally comic filmmaker like Clark

Like the best genre films, Deathdream offers an interesting glimpse of the American psyche during the time it was made.
