What's the Cheesiest Line?
What's the cheesiest line of dialogue in movie history? While there would be a seemingly endless number of strong contenders, a survey of 2,000 moviegoers conducted by the BBC has determined that Leonardo DiCaprio's cry of, "I'm the king of the world!" in "Titanic" to be the corniest, according to the New York Daily News. Patrick Swayze's declaration that, "Nobody puts Baby in a corner," from "Dirty Dancing," was second. The list includes luminaries such as Julia Roberts, Mel Gibson, and Renee Zellweger, mouthing absurd lines from "Notting Hill," "Braveheart," and "Jerry Maguire."

Stankton writes: on Dec 06 2004 02:10 PM Peice of cake. -Battlefeild Earth The line tries to be so dramatic! But its just so stupid, anti-climatic, and even worse is the acting. It was so funny I laughed almost as hard as I did at the scene when he stole the hose and started shooting it at the aliens. (Reply to this) |

my_unique_nickname writes: on Dec 06 2004 02:14 PM The Core. "But what if we could?" Spoken by Stanley Tucci after the board room agrees that people can do nothing to stop the destruction of the world. Why is this the cheesiest line? Because no one would ask such a bluntly stupid question. The answer to his question is one-track... it would HAVE to be: "Well, the world would be saved. Thanks for stopping our creative thinking, idiot." But alas, this line has followed me and my friends since we saw the movie. Now anytime someone talks of an impossible idea, we blurt out "But what if we could?" (Reply to this) |

dust'n the callipygous writes: on Dec 06 2004 05:49 PM terrible lines "Here is Subzero. Now...Plain Zero!" --Arnold (The Running Man) How did this pass through so many people and still manage to be deemed worthy of being put on film for all to see. I suppose they just decided that since Arnold was to be the star, they really shouldn't worry too much about dialogue. While this line is terrible, I still can't compare it to Stephen King's The Shining: "Kisses...That's what I been missin'." Seriously now, I know it was a mini-series made for TV, but there's just no excuse for something like that. (Reply to this) |

renodc writes: on Dec 07 2004 11:54 AM Cheesiest Line? When looking for Premium "Cheese", one can find a cheese buffet in the 2004 summer release "Troy", especially from Orlando Bloom whose lines simply drip with dairy. The finest "cheddary" moment comes in the conversation between Helen and Paris, when Paris tells Helen he will give up Troy for her. When Helen asks how they will survive, Paris replies with guormet cheese, "We will live off the land, and I will learn to hunt deer and rabbits". (Reply to this) |

Ophiuchus writes: on Dec 07 2004 05:49 PM Hmmm. A tough one. Probably that absolutely appalling speech from Independence Day would be my favourite. I found the film's idea of 'America saves the world and everyone else tags happily along' very annoying. 'And on that day... we will celebrate... OUR INDEPENDENCE DAY!' Puleeze. (Reply to this) |

"We're more like...treasure protectors" It's only made better by the over-the-top seriousness that only a man like Nic Cage could give us! (Reply to this) |

ImaRobot writes: on Jan 08 2005 02:41 PM Return of the Jedi One of the Imperial Officers' first and only line of the trilogy: "You Rebel scum!" I guess it's not so much the line, as it is the delivery, probably a combination. That guy must've taken hours coming up with that and it comes off totally labored. Also, in the worst movie of 2004, "Saw", the line a Cary Elwes's character says when he is tucking his daughter in: "now, give me your tootsie." I don't know why, but this line was utterly hillarious, and is still quoted frequently amongst my friends and I. (Reply to this) |
