bigfrog writes: on Jul 07 2007 09:29 PM I really wish they would stop making remakes... ...especially lousy remakes. The only movies I want to see remade are The Lord of the Rings directed by Akira Kurosawa. (Reply to this) |

Batmanner writes: on Jul 08 2007 06:17 AM gonna be some logistics problem there. kurosawa is long dead. (Reply to this) |

ThaneofGlamis writes: on Jul 08 2007 09:00 AM Please, please stop remaking great classical films. If this kind of shite keeps up then one day the inevitable will happen; some producer or producers will think that remaking Casablanca, Lawrence of Arabia (complete with Indians playing the role of the Arabs), and CItizen Kane is a gold mine that is untapped. ~*Admiral Snowstorm*~ writes: on Jul 08 2007 01:35 PM In reply to this comment (#910436) This was funny the first time I read it but please stop posting it in every Thread concerning a remake. And even though it is predictable to complain about remakes, I have to say that I am annoyed by this. There are a lot of high-concept low-budget movies out there that could really benefit from the technology of today; remake those. Why are movies like Bullitt and The Dirty Dozen being remade? They're fine as is. Leave them alone. Let's start actually remaking bad movies and see if we can turn them into good movies, eh Hollywood? (Reply to this) |

thetruebastard writes: on Jul 08 2007 02:33 PM Look at the best remakes: The Thing, The Fly, Ocean's Eleven, etc. They worked because they remade SHITTY movies. I don't mind remakes as long as it's possible to improve upon the original. And it's virtually impossible to improve upon Lee Marvin, Charles Bronson, Ernest Borgnine, Robert Ryan, and Donald Sutherland, among others. (Reply to this) |

The_Corrector writes: on Jul 08 2007 02:51 PM In reply to this comment (#910448) So what you're saying, is that reading the same things over and over again is annoying (Reply to this) |

cgcbooks writes: on Jul 08 2007 05:36 PM In reply to this comment (#910449) What? The original Thing, The Fly and Oceans Eleven were all good movies. What you said didn't make any sense. You better go watch them again. The second half of your comment makes sense. I can't even think of twelve good actors today. And the original Dirty Dozen had more than twelve good actors. (Reply to this) |

~*Admiral Snowstorm*~ writes: on Jul 09 2007 05:24 AM In reply to this comment (#910450) Heh, yes. Well phrased. The Thing, The Fly, and Ocean's Eleven were all pretty good movies. But the directors took a risk remaking them and they turned out astounding. There have been some good remakes of good movies recently; I thought King Kong '05 was superb. But those only come once in a great while, and in between the next great remake there are about ten disgraces to classic movies. The problem isn't the remakes themselves, it's just how little effort was put into it. Compare the two The Fogs, for instance. The original was hardly John Carpenter's best, but the remake completely throws away any traces of originality in the first. Everyone is a stupid teenager and the entire thing is just your run-of-the-mill supernatural thriller. There was no effort at all to improve upon a potentially frightening and interesting story, the effort went into dumbing it down for today's audiences when the exact opposite treatment should have been given. The Fly and The Thing are exactly the reason remakes exist, but those kinds of remakes just aren't being made as much anymore. And even with some great remakes like the above three, I still am skeptical of a Dirty Dozen remake. What's there to remake, really? If they're going to REIMAGINE, as they did with The Fly and The Thing, then they can try, but then again, what exactly is there to reimagine? Dirty Dozen isn't quite as pliable as The Fly/Thing. Overall, it just looks like a precursor for another resounding failure in the department of remakes, and I'd rather Hollywood not bother with remakes if they're not even going to make an honest effort to improve already good movies. thetruebastard writes: on Jul 09 2007 06:59 AM Those originals sucked horribly. Ocean's Eleven was just another excuse to get the Rat Pack together again. It's not really even an honest attempt at making a good film, but rather a collection of butt buddies who can't keep their hands off of each other. The humor is lame and the action dull. And the original The Fly? It seemed more like a comedy than a horror/sci-fi flick. Same thing with the original The Thing. Just to set the record straight, here are some actual good heist movies from that earlier period that blows the original Ocean's Eleven away by a mile in both humor and action: $$$$$ (Dollars) Bonnie and Clyde The Killing The Thomas Crown Affair The Return of the Pink Panther Similary, there are many better early sci-fi films than the original The Thing and The Fly in terms of effects and thematic material: Metropolis The Day the Earth Stood Still Forbidden Planet The Time Machine The Invasion of the Body Snatchers (Reply to this) |

Shatter24 writes: on Jul 09 2007 11:06 AM A modern interpretation could work I hope they cast a great crew of today's badasses, who can also act, for this film. Maybe put in Vin Diesel, Jason Statham, Russell Crowe, Michael Clarke Duncan, Bruce Willis, and Jamie Foxx. Who wouldn't want to see that movie, with today's special effects. Have Ridley Scott direct or something. How awesome would that be? (Reply to this) |
