Synopsis: Kuzco (David Spade) is the young, arrogant emperor of a vast kingdom. For his entire life, he has always had everything his own way. When his adviser, Yzma (Eartha Kitt), decides to usurp his power... Kuzco (David Spade) is the young, arrogant emperor of a vast kingdom. For his entire life, he has always had everything his own way. When his adviser, Yzma (Eartha Kitt), decides to usurp his power for herself, she has her servant Kronk (Patrick Warburton) poison Kuzco--but something goes wrong, and instead of dying, Kuzco is transformed into a talking llama. The former emperor winds up in the company of Pacha (John Goodman), a simple peasant just evicted from his land by Kuzco's plans for a new summer home. Pacha and Kuzco grudgingly agree to work together to restore Kuzco to his throne--and back to human form--but a series of wacky misadventures and the schemes of Yzma ensure that their journey will be a treacherous one. With THE EMPEROR'S NEW GROOVE, Disney takes a break from the more serious, epic dramas of recent years in order to focus on nonstop comedy and slapstick dialogue. Featuring a series of hilarious stunts and a quick, lighthearted pace, THE EMPEROR'S NEW GROOVE is a bubbly pleasure for viewers of all ages. The film also features Sting's Oscar-nominated song "My Funny Friend and Me." [More]

Reviews for The Emperor's New Groove
It has a freewheeling script and daredevil animation -- driven by a script that assumes everyone is hip and cool and totally in tune with animation as entertainment.
Ingenious action sequences driven by surprisingly little plot lead to a climax full of the transmogrification animation was invented for.
Emperor doesn't aim too high or strain too hard; it is at ease inhabiting its pretty, miniature realm.
Groove boasts some innovative tricks and sharp performances. Oh, and not too many songs. Phew.
The arc of the story may be predictable, but it’s balanced out by some marvelously unpredictable flashes of visual comedy, all very much in the style of Chuck Jones in his prime.
The unfussy, tossed-off quality actually helps give this original story zippy irreverence some of Disney's plusher cartoons lack.
This Disney comedy makes a self-conscious and largely successful attempt to modernise the studio's format with a jive-ass sensibility.
Lickety-split banter between brilliantly conceived characters, chase scenes that leave you breathless with laughter and surprise ... this is a whole new ballgame for Disney.
It looks like director Mark Dindal has been watching a lot of Chuck Jones lately.
The Emperor’s New Groove is really about another new groove Disney animation's Not a success at the box office, it deserves to be a family hit on VHS and DVD.
For some reason, this film feels rushed through, like the conventional animation pictures are becoming a kind of filler between the computer-animated Pixar releases.
It delivers engaging, high-spirited adventure that parents can appreciate alongside their young offspring.
