Disney Already Talking Enchanted Sequels?
Studio putting the magical pumpkin-shaped buggy before the horse?
It won't reach theaters until November 21st, but as far as Disney's concerned, Enchanted is already a franchise in the making.
That's the message the studio sent from ShowEast this week. As FirstShowing reports, Disney presenter Diego Lerner "talked repeatedly about Enchanted being a franchise and sequels for the film, and the fact that Disney is expecting it to be huge." The synopsis for the fairytale-with-a-twist is as follows:
A classic Disney animated fairy tale meets with the modern, live-action romantic comedy in Walt Disney Pictures' ENCHANTED. Featuring an all-star cast, the film follows the beautiful princess Giselle (AMY ADAMS) as she is banished by an evil queen (SUSAN SARANDON) from her magical, musical animated land and finds herself in the gritty reality of the streets of modern-day Manhattan.
Expectations are cheap, of course, and it would be fair to say that the studios expect most major films to "be huge." And there's also the apparent problem of extending Enchanted's storyline, according to FirstShowing's Alex Billington:
I can say after screening Enchanted that I definitely can see it being a franchise, but I'm slightly confused as to how it would continue or what the next story would be. It has a rather all-in-one-package feeling to it, but then again, studios can always create sequels out of nothing, kind of like High School Musical.

on Oct 19 2007 08:17 AM Well think of any of those Disney fairy-tales with sequels. Those could be plausible story-lines for a sequel to this film. In an effort to not just complain, I will say that I laughed out loud when I saw that trailer. I doubt this movie will be amazing, but it'll be good; looking forward to it. And I'll take a sequel if that's what I have to pay for a non-remake. (Reply to this) |

The whole problem with Disney (scratch that, animated family films in general) recently is that ever since the Genie in Aladin they have to insert Britney Spears and Spice Girls jokes into everything, because lord knows kids won't sit through a movie that doesn't that doesn't make jokes out of anachronistic quoting last years big box office hit. So.. now... instead of shoving pop-culture into fairy tales, we're shoving fairy tales into pop-culture... yeah, brilliant. You people do realize that Disney is calling you are your kids stupid idiots by making this pile of crap? I swear, if there is ONE, even ONE pop-culture refrence ANYWHERE is "Frog Princess" I'm going to burn Disney World to the ground. (Reply to this) |

on Oct 19 2007 01:33 PM In reply to this comment (#1203095) I'm pretty sure I saw a trailer for this too - but that was a while ago...maybe last Christmas. Maybe it was pre-production? I know it definately wasn't a trailer for Ella Enchanted. Oh well - maybe it will work. Disney has done this before with Knights and other fable/fairy characters. on Oct 19 2007 04:42 PM A friend of mine who works for Disney here in Australia went reluctantly to a preview and walked out thinking it was one of the most enjoyable films she had ever seen. on Oct 22 2007 10:45 AM I saw the trailer at a packed theater here a couple weeks ago and the audience reaction was very positive, lots of laughing and even some excited applause at the end of it. I'm trying to remember what film I was at but it was a primarily adult audience ( I see very few "kiddie flicks") I must admit I liked the trailer too, it looked funny and clever. (Reply to this) |

on Mar 21 2008 01:58 PM I love how everyone who said this movie would fail and how horrible it looks was wrong. It was a hit and it actually was a great/entertaining movie. The cast was great and the story line was 100% original. I think those of you who thought it was going to be bad are just hooked on stupid remakes that they only make nowadays. I loved this movie.
