She's completely isolated until, one day, Jim Brecan (Robert Ryan) shows up, on the run from the police for having killed the son of the Sawbwa (Robert Warrick), a Burmese potentate, an accusation which he denies. He becomes involved with Gwen, and all is well until the arrival of security officer Cardigan (David Farrar), who poses as an elephant buyer. After Gwen forces him to admit his true purpose, the apprehension of Brecan, he shows her the murder bullet, which perfectly matches a slug from Brecan's gun. After Gwen succeeds in persuading Brecan to turn himself in, their party is suddenly attacked by bandits. They release Brecan, thinking that's he's one of their own, but he grabs one of their guns and drives them off. Although Brecan is now in Cardigan's custody again, the Sawbwa has learned of Brecan's location, and dispatched soldiers to bring Brecan to him. The soldiers open fire on the location of Cardigan and Brecan, but the security officer refuses to relinquish his prisoner. Stanwyck and Ryan do their best with the campy script, and cinematographer John Alton supplies visually majestic backdrops. [More]
