Campbell Touches Upon the "Evil Dead" Remake
by Scott Weinberg | March 21, 2006
Discuss Article
CS.net pointed us towards an excerpt from a Penny Blood Magazine interview with Bruce Campbell, and it seems the almighty chin had a little something to say about the (eventually) upcoming remake of "The Evil Dead."

"In a recent interview, Bruce Campbell gave Penny Blood the lowdown on the future of the Evil Dead franchise. He says, “We don't really talk about [another] sequel too much 'cause Sam (Raimi) is too busy right now. It would all be kinda moot. But I think we're gonna do a remake. It'll be a whole new story, though. It won't be with Ash. It'll be the evil book, and it'll affect a whole new group of people in a different situation. More like a reinvention. A lot of people, they got really crabby on the Internet when they first heard that type of stuff. But, we would never do anything to insult them. The trick is to take that premise - and we think it's a scary premise - and use some cool modern day FX… so we won't have green garden hoses in the shots. We wanna make a flat out, scary-ass, un-rated horror film.”"

Sounds Great
Dead by dawn... bring it on... dead by dawn! This will be great but part of the great fun of Evil Dead stuff is that you can tell the effects dummies are really there, not some sort of thin image that does not seem to even be there; the brontosauruses from the recent King Kong being the best example I can find of the CGI stuff just not really being there. Keep the monsters real!

"so we won't have green garden hoses in the shots" Bruce Campbell says...

What Bruce might be failing to see is that is why Evil Dead was so great... No FX or any of those kind of things, instead, it was like it was shot in a backyard, which is why I really liked Evil Dead.

I won't judge until I see the Preview and stuff, but I think that if their is no Ash in it, I think the story might fail.

Well you have to remember that when they originally made Evil Dead they wanted it to be a horror movie, although in the end it really did turn out to be a comedy (explaining the other movies). It makes sense that they want to go back and try to re-do Evil Dead to make it a horror movie, and the results will hopefully be good, but I certainly wouldnt mind another sequel, especially if it went ahead and "spoofed" the whole CGI scene, could be really funny.

I like Army of Darkness the best by far because it is funny. Even my parents like that movie. I hope they just don't make a pure horror film because your limiting the audience if you do.

I agree with all the posts, if it uses cheap CGi stuff it's going to ruin it. When are directors finally going to realise that nobody likes CGI. Bring back old skool dummies and actors in a zombie suit!

Look at slither, I haven't seen it yet, but looking at the trailer, the CGi bits look crap whereas the make up effects look fantastic!

And by the way I don't think the forst one was really a comedy unlike Dead by dawn, despite the primitive FX, I still find it pretty scary!

Evil Dead franshise is good because of Raimi and Campbell. Without them, this will be another crappy remake. After Spider Man 3, Raimi needs to continue the franchise with Ash as an old man living in the future. That's how it should be.

I don't know why everyone says this is a comedy. The first evil dead was scary as hell. Sure, the amateur acting abilities were kinda laughable, but it's the same in every low budget film. Once you realize what kinda movie it is, it's fuckin' awesome.

Evil Dead without Campbell? With high budget CGI?

sigh...
