Jack Faust writes: on Nov 10 2008 05:02 PM In your expert scientific opinion, Mike, what are your objections to the idea that crystals may have had something to do with the beginning of life? I'm sure that your training as a movie critic has prepared you to address this in detail. This movie's been out for months and you've written your review as if Stein's claims haven't been refuted over and over and over again. Why do you write about things you don't understand? Please stick to reviewing fiction. (Reply to this) |

Mark M. writes: on Dec 31 2008 10:32 AM Ohhh Jack Fraust - how elitist of you. Only scientists can discuss certain topics? Only politicians can tell you how to live your life? Only movie critics can judge a movie? Your hypocrisy stinks to high heaven! Jackie boy, Mike's point isn't that he holds objections to the great God crystal theory. Mike's point is that when such a 'scientist' holds such a (laughable) theory while simultaneously rejecting a theory of God it reveals the blinders that Darwinists (like yourself) wear. Sorry to interrupt your prayer time to your almighty Crystal, Jackie boy. (Reply to this) |

Mark H. writes: on Jan 06 2009 04:27 AM In reply to this comment (#2218054) Mark, you seemed to be confused, since when does evolution negate a theory of a god? The theory of evolution is about, get this... It's about how life changes and adapt! (Reply to this) |

lister20 writes: on Jan 14 2009 05:51 PM In reply to this comment (#2218054) Oh Mark M, everybody knows that anybody can discuss any topic they want. Some people are just much more ignorant about the subject than others. For instance, shall I base my opinion on evolution based on what a monotonous former game show hack with absolutely no scientific background says, or someone like Richard Dawkins, whose work in evolutionary biology and zoology is world renowned? The problem in this country isn't elistism as you attribute to Mr. Faust. No indeed, the problem lies with scientifically illiterate fundamentalists doing their best to subvert our educational system with a completely ridiculous, unscientific hypothesis that has never and will never be proven. Believe in a magic sky fairy and call me an elitist if you will...the country needs more people who think and less people who pray. (Reply to this) |

Sarah K. writes: on Oct 26 2009 06:41 AM In reply to this comment (#2546670) this is an ongoing argument i doubt anyone can answer and i don't think anyone needs to be ridiculed or slandered for an opinion just because someone else doesn't agree. i personally think God is amazing and i cant fathom life without relationship with him and the amazing grace and truth He fills my life with. However i know that a LOT of people absolutely disagree with me and think thats pathetic and absurd and i need a reality check. However i can understand just how passionately people can believe in ANYTHING else, people will see what they want to. I suppose we'll just see in the end hey? and someone will be eating their words i just hope its not me. (Reply to this) |

Mouse B. writes: on Dec 18 2009 01:28 PM In reply to this comment (#2555986) I just finished watching this film about 20 minutes ago and have been checking out the reviews just to see what the critical response has been like and it seems like most of these reviewers are just underscoring Ben Stein's original point - there seems to be an elitist culture of intellectual tyranny at work when it comes to the subject of Intelligent Design. It really seems like many proponents of Darwinism have been utterly vicious in their attacks against this idea that there might be a larger, conscious creative force behind the existence of life. That's why I like Sarah K.'s comment so much - she's like a voice of reason amidst a sea of negativity. People shouldn't be attacking each other like this. We need to foster a community of rational, mature debate without any of this mud-slinging and name calling or nothing of any true significance will be accomplished. Now my next step in better understanding this argument is to read the works of folks like Richard Dawkins and Stephen Meyers and compare their ideas and research. (Reply to this) |
