Next Asia-to-America Horror Remakes? Two Separate "Eye"s
by Scott Weinberg | October 18, 2005
Discuss Article
For those who just can't get enough of American remakes like "The Ring," "The Grudge," and "Dark Water," get ready to celebrate. Paramount's got a remake of "The Eye" on the way, and New Line is now set to distribute "In-Utero," which is a redo of "The Eye 2."

The "film is about a pregnant woman who has a near-death experience that results in her seeing dead spirits. Scribe Todd Stein has been set to adapt.

Gold Circle ("My Big Fat Greek Wedding") will finance "In-Utero" with a budget around $25 million. Company has a first-look deal with Universal, which passed on the pic.

A U.S. remake of the original ("The Eye"), which had a completely separate plot, is in development with Vertigo at Paramount."

Oh my god.......
How about releasing these original versions in theaters instead of making terrible retreads? Just a though.

How about we stop with these damned asian horror flicks -- the 1st one or 2 were novel, but subsequent ones are retreads in their own right.

I totally agree...
...but... have you seen Jian Gui 2? Unlike The Grudge and Dark Water and even The Eye, the Pang Brothers aspired to make something pretty original here... and nearly succedded... hopefully the writer will be able to pick up on that. This story could be amazing if done right.

the eye is good but standard, is a mix of the six sense and the mothman prophecies, is not very original, which is unusual for an asian horror flick

the eye 2 is pretty crappy, maybe they're are so despertly in need of ideas than even bad ones will do

Yeah, "The Eye" is pretty much a remake of "The Sixth Sense." Funny how Hollywood is remaking another country's remake of their stuff.

No it's not. The idea of a characer seeing ghosts is not orginal. The two stories aren't even similar.

Well, I've seen both "The Eye" and "The Eye 2"

The first one is pretty good but the second one is total crap.

I've seen both the Asian version of The Eye & the Eye 2...(though not the recent Eye 3 yet).

Actually, my ex (along with his twin bro) has a small speaking part in Eye2 as star Shu Qi's swimming coaches. Directors The Pang Bros cast him because they are also twins and thought it might be fun to give her 2 instructors instead of one. Anyway, I'm curious who will play the character(s) in the US remake.
