Based on Michael Moorcock's novel of the same name, THE FINAL PROGRAMME is set in a futuristic London, when the world is on the brink of nuclear disaster, and stars Jon Finch as Jerry Cornelius, a swinging London playboy who also happens to be a genius in the field of nuclear physics. When Jerry discovers evidence of a mysterious program his Nobel Prize winning father, a number of scientists seek his help in finding it. Called "the Final Program," the program is a formula for cloning and modifying humans. Soon, Cornelius has teamed up with Miss Brunner, a computer expert who sexual practices can only be described as alarming. As Miss Brunner and Cornelius close in on the program, it becomes apparent that their lives are in danger and that they must recover the program in order to save the Earth. Deftly mixing comedy with science-fiction, THE FINAL PROGRAMME resembles THE AVENGERS and THE PRISONER in tone and style, but its sly hero and intriguing plot make it a beguilingly original film.
