Mervyn LeRoy's expose of greedy tabloid journalism was inexplicably nominated for the Best Picture Oscar, but has not aged well and is not nearly as compelling as the similarly-themed The Front Page, also a product of the early sound era.
Despite a great turn by Robinson, the acting nearly sinks this film.
Worth seeing mainly for Karloff's colorful performance in a character role.
