Review Revue: Get Smart or Love Guru?
Plus, awesome new Rotten Tomatoes swag for two lucky winners!
by Jen Yamato | June 20, 2008
Discuss Article

This week you've got your choice between high concept date movies, but are either Get Smart or The Love Guru worth your precious dollars? Find out in the latest Review Revue (and also look for your chance to win more Rotten Tomatoes swag)!

Steve Carell and Mike Myers vie for your comedic loyalty this weekend, as both put their star power to work in competing wide-appeal comedies. But are today's teen moviegoers too young to remember (and want to see re-imagined) the bumbling CONTROL agent, Maxwell Smart? On the flip side, who wants to see Mike Myers mug through two hours of penis jokes and potty humor?

Check out this week's Review Revue below (Streaming video! Stream to your heart's delight!) and leave a comment for your chance to win this week's Tomato-tastic new prizes.

Tune in next week as we discuss Pixar's futuristic charmer, Wall-E, and the Angelina Jolie-James McAvoy actioner, Wanted!

Love Guru should never have been made.

The critics were wrong on this one, they made agent 86 into a spy not an idiot like the show, and thats why its going to win over fans. Tons of laughs in store for you and a couple one liners you might see yourself saying to your friends

based on the ads, love guru looks dumb as **** and get smart looks like a nice little popcorn comedy.

Get Smart the film wasn't as clever as the tv show was(and I have to disagree with Atchity, based on audience reaction to the introduction of certain characters: a LOT of folks are too young to remember the show...Nick At Nite viewings notwithstanding), although it was still enjoyable. I have no interest whatsoever in seeing the barely talented Myers' Love Guru.

And if I might oink like a pig for a moment, I also have to say that while I miss Jen's loooooooow cut shirts, I am absolutely digging the mini-skirt!

Homer Simpson Voice: Mmmmm...Jen Yamato mini.....hhhhhaaaarrrggggghhhh....

Aww, poor mike meyers. I still have to say, the "Wayne's World" movies are still one of my favorite comedies. I'd really like to see him do another rom com similar to "So I Married an Ax Murderer". But I digress, I think Mr. Meyers is still rolling in the dough from the "Shrek" movies.

Oh, and cool mouse pads! Unfortunately, I'm spent out of quirky ideas so I'm just gonna say my fav part of RT is the Review Revue, DUH!

Because it is the only bestest review show on the interwebs evur. If I could change the world, I'd like everyone to watch RT's Review Revue. It would bring an end to poverty and stop soaring gas prices. And world peace!

Saw Get Smart. I wasn't cracking up through the whole movie, but Carrell was good as the star, Hathaway is hot and a good actress, and the Rock did well. As an overall action-comedy, it was entertaining and good fun, a typical summer popcorn movie that's worth seeing in theaters.

Think I'll skip the Love Guru.

I remember seeing "The Nude Bomb" on HBO over and over again as a kid. The Nude Bomb was a 1980 movie involving the "Get Smart" characters, and starring the same people from the television show. Something about a Nude Bomb seemed incredibly funny when I was about seven years old. . .

I never really understood how low Mike Myers is currently until I watched the "review revue." The comment "Vern Troyer's worst film of the year may not be [Uwe Boll's] Postal." Dear Lord.

Every clip of "Get Smart" from the trailers, is either funny to me, or I can see where others will laugh. None of them are boring.

ALL of the clips from "Love Guru" Look awful, but I can see where some people may like it. When I saw the clips for "Norbitt" I cringed, and hated all of them, but that went on to make money.

Mike Myers needs to do SPROCKETS.

Neither one catches my interest, but if I had no other choice I'd go with Get Smart.

i watched the first 30 minutes of Love Guru before I went into Get Smart...it was awful. But Get Smart was surprisingly entertaining, well worth a watch in theatres.

Get Smart is great popcorn comedy fun. The tomatometer is way off on that one.

The part that drew me to Rotten Tomatoes was the compilation of reviews from known critics to give a percentage of freshness or rotten-ness. . . The part that keeps me visiting are the comments made in forums.

If I could change one thing, it would be to have a tab for All Critics and what their compiled rating would be, and a seperate tab for "Top" critics and what their compiled rating would be. Just a suggestion, but I think a good one.

=)

Dear Lord my post is wrong, and I can't edit it. . .

I know you already have the ability to find out the top critics compiled ratings, that's my favorite thing within the compilations. . . ugh. I sound even more like an idiot...

Get Smart is deserving of a FRESH rating for sure. There was nothing ROTTEN about it. Sure, it wasn't perfect, but I thoroughly enjoyed it. Anne Hathaway always turns out a star performance. I love her.
