Trailer Bulletin: Ben Affleck's "Gone Baby Gone"
by Scott Weinberg | July 09, 2007
Discuss Article
He's won an Oscar for screenwriting and he's known as a (pretty) good actor, but can Ben Affleck ... direct? You be the judge.

Click here for the first trailer for Ben Affleck's "Gone Baby Gone," an abduction thriller that stars Morgan Freeman, Ed Harris, Michelle Monaghan, and (in his first big starring role) Casey Affleck as a detective who aims to discover what happened to a missing little girl.

Based on the novel by Dennis Lehane ("Mystic River"), the screenplay comes from Affleck and first-timer Aaron Stockard. Trailers can be deceptive (obviously), but the flick looks pretty solid to me. As always, the promo clip gives away too much, but I'm still pretty intrigued by this one. Miramax releases "Gone Baby Gone" (in limited release) on October 19th.

Gone Baby Gone
Did he name the movie after his acting career?

Yeah yeah, but for reals check the trailer out...it looks pretty good, and I'm all for Casey Affleck stepping foot in Leading Man territory...

Pretty impressive cast too. I'm all about the Affleck. He kicked ass in Hollywoodland and of course was "The bomb in Phantoms". Seriously I think it's time we forgave poor Ben for the J-lo debacle.

I don't care what people think about Affleck, the movie and the direction looks solid from the trailer. That's it.

Looks awfully similar to Stallone's "Copland".

I'm a little undecided on it, but I'll give it a shot. The trailer was a little confusing to me. Is it about crooked cops or what?

as much as I think he's a horrible actor I think he's done a very good job lying low in an effort to start over. so good for him.

and Phantoms, nice.

It's based on a great book by an incredible author, so hopefully even Ben can't screw it up too bad. Casting his brother as Kenzie though? Ouch. One strike against it right away.
